How do the house points work?
There are 4 different house teams, Wolves & Panthers for Keyboard, Phoenixes & Eagles for Guitar, these teams will be arranged by the teacher and split evenly in terms of numbers & ability.
The house team system is to motivate students to practice and step outside their comfort zone. Points are earned from 4 different avenues, behaviour in class, challenges completed in class, homework completed and exam results.
BEHAVIOUR
Students will be awarded 1 point each lesson for good behaviour in class.
Challenges
Students will be awarded 1 point each for challenges completed in class that teachers assign them.
HOMEWORK
Students will be awarded 1 point each for homework completed that teachers assign them.
Exam Results
When students take exams on their instrument, they have the opportunity to not only earn points for their team, but also have the chance to win a trophy & prize each year:
2 Points for Pass
5 Points for Merit
10 Points for Distinction
The student with the highest exam result on Guitar & Keyboard between September - July will be awarded a trophy & prize at the summer performance.
We Want our lessons to be Educational but fun
The more it feels like school, the less likely our students will enjoy the lessons, that being said we need to ensure behaviour is at a top level for each class, with students having the chance to have fun but listen when instructed.
All students have the chance to earn 1 point for their team for good behaviour in class, however, if a student misbehaves in class, they not only lose the chance to earn that point, they also are at risk to have 1 point taken away from their team.
To ensure this doesn't happen, if a student receives 3 point deductions for behaviour, we will talk to their parents.
Teachers have access to Class Dojo where they can update the students points tally on a weekly basis.
Homework
Teachers assign each student homework every week & updated on class dojo, upon returning the following week, students will show what they completed, if they haven't practiced, no points will be allocated to them, if they have completed their homework then you can award the student 1 point.
Homework can be a section of a piece/song, scale/exercise or theory practice.
Weekly Challenges
Each week, teachers give each student a quick fire challenge to complete and earn 1 point, which include, theory questions, scales or exercises or piece/song performance.
1 week out of the month, a lesson will be dedicated to in-depth challenges and games which involve a whole class involvement, teams can earn up to 5 points for this.
